“I’m a Renaissance Man”
Why do you say you're a Renaissance man?
That’s an English term from the Middle Ages. The Italians called it l'uomo universale. This is the universal man who is perfect not in one thing, but in many things. He is like Leonardo da Vinci. He was an engineer, doctor, anatomist. He used to study the human body - to be an artist you have to know the human body. I mean, if you're going to make good art. He was also a sculptor, but he considered himself a painter. He was an inventor, he invented many things. He also used to study water, water movement and nature, so he was also a scientist. This is what I am. That's why I call myself a renaissance man, except I'm a modern renaissance man. I study the human body on my own by looking at people and drawing them. Ideally I would like to have models, people who pose with costumes, so that I can study the human body and human form. A renaissance man is like this, but not everyone wants to aim for that ideal. Not everybody wants to be like this.
Why is it important to you to aim for that ideal?
To fulfill myself, to achieve, to explore knowledge, to improve myself. To be a human!
